Camelback Christian School Administrative Staff
Jeanne Bookhout, Administrator
(Email Jeanne Bookhout) Jeanne Bookhout came to Camelback Bible Church on August 1, 2003 to be the Administrator of Camelback Christian School. CCS is a preschool with approximately 100 children, ages 2-6. Before coming to CBC, Jeanne spent the last few years as a middle school teacher, primarily teaching Math, Science, Bible, and Health. Jeanne also coordinated the Junior Church program at her church and worked as a Sr. High Youth leader. She was also on the Board of Directors for the Red Hook Recreation Department. When not in the classroom or busy at church, Jeanne could be found on the soccer field serving as a referee for both Junior Varsity and Varsity Soccer. Jeanne was blessed to have grown up on the island of Bonaire in the Caribbean and attending a Dutch speaking school. Being the child of Trans World Radio missionaries was absolutely one of the highlights of her life. Jeanne met her husband Tom (Pastor of Music Ministries at CBC) while attending Houghton College in Houghton, New York. She graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Elementary Education with a minor in Communication. The happy couple was married the summer after graduation. Tom and Jeanne have three children: Katrina,Tracy and Matthew, who attend Arizona State University, Whitworth University and Christ Lutheran School, respectively. In addition to having 3 wonderful children, they are also the proud owners of a nice cat named Lucky and a golden retriever named Shelby, a yellow lab named Hope and 2 fish. Presently, Jeanne sings in the Adult Choir, Ensemble, and plays in the Adult Handbell Choir. Her favorite encouraging passage of scripture is Jude vs 2 – “ May more and more mercy, peace and love be given to you!”
Betty Anderson, Administrative Assistant
(Email Betty Anderson) Betty Anderson (“Miss Betty”), came to Camelback Christian School September of 1999 after moving from the Chicago area where she went to school at Moody Bible Institute and belonged to Willowcreek Community Church. Prior to Camelback, Betty worked for many years as a Trade Analyst for a Johnson Family (S.C. Johnson Wax) called Johnson Worldwide, where she was a part of the fishing/marine group. When Betty heard about an opening at Camelback Christian School working as the assistant to the director, considering it a special opportunity God was calling her to. Betty’s church home is Scottsdale Bible Church, and for many years she was a hospice volunteer with Odyssey (Dignita) Healthcare. Betty has been making quilts the last few years with two other women from SBC, for church members going on short mission trips, plus Neighborhood Ministries here in Phoenix. These quilts are passed out to orphanages, schools, and churches. She also belongs to Reap What You Sew making comfort quilts for hospice, children’s crises centers, hospitals, etc. The group, a ministry of First Christian Church, generally makes 700-800 quilts a year. Betty, and her husband of 48 years, Bob, have four children (three living in Phoenix), five grandchildren, and two spoiled rotten dogs (her words) called Happy and Brandy. Betty was born in Pocatello, Idaho, and how she went from Idaho to a life in Chicago is a story for another day. Betty says it is not possible to pick just one favorite scripture verse, but the following verses were very important when she first began her personal relationship with the Christ, Jesus. We are redeemed through His blood: Ephesians 1:7: “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.” We have a place prepared for our eternity: John 14:1-4: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” He is faithful: Lamentations 3:22-23: “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Camelback Bible Church Administrative Staff
Joy Bauerlein, Office Manager
(Email Joy Bauerlein)
Joy came to CBC in August 2004, when she moved from Wheaton, IL to Tempe, AZ. It had been a dream of hers to someday move to AZ to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Bryce Morgan and (at that time) two precious grandchildren, Laurel and Aidan. At last, in God’s perfect timing, Joy and her father, Charles Gray, made the trip west. If you talk with her for any length of time at all, you will most likely hear her say that she is “in Grandma Heaven!” Joy was blessed to grow up in a godly home in the suburbs of Chicago. The church has always been Joy’s home away from home, and music has always played a huge part in her life. From early childhood on, she participated in choirs, ensembles, and every youth event possible. After high school, Joy went on to Moody Bible Institute, graduating with a diploma from their Christian-Education/Music program. Life had been easy growing up – quite sheltered, even. But God does His best work in the tough times, and Joy had to learn how to lean on God moment by moment, as He has gone with her through many deep waters in her adult life. God was, and remains, faithful! Christ’s words in II Corinthians 12:9 are a reassuring foundation for Joy: “My grace is sufficient for you; my strength is made perfect in (your) weakness. Truly, God has been Joy’s strength – and His grace has abounded! It is her delight to give back to Him, Who has given her so much. It is with God’s amazing strength that she applies herself to the many challenges she faces as Camelback Bible Church’s Office Manager. Having 20+ years experience in Administrative Assistant/Office Manager roles in “Corporate America”, Joy is thrilled to be able to use God’s gifts in the refreshing Christian surroundings of our church office. In addition to her “day job”, she feels abundantly blessed to be able to sing in the adult choir and play handbells with the Genesis Ringers. One of Joy’s favorite verses is Psalm 18:1, 2 “I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in Whom I take refuge."

Julie Shumate, Assistant to Pastor of Music Ministries (Tom)
(Email Julie Shumate)
Julie first attended CBC in January 1982. She joined the office staff in May 2004.
Julie was born and raised in Phoenix, AZ. She has been married to Randy for 25 years. They have four children: Stephanie, Randy Jr., Joshua and Jessica.
Julie says she is blessed by being raised in a Christian home and became a Christian at age 10. She was baptized in Guadalajara, Mexico. She says Jesus is her Lord and she daily seeks His will for her life through reading, studying, and meditating on His word.
Her favorite verse is Ephesians 5:1, “Be imitators of God, therefore; as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
Mary Gayle Stewart, Assistant to Senior Pastor (Tim)
(Email Mary Gayle Stewart) Mary Gayle first attended CBC in the summer of 1971. She began volunteering in the office in the mid-80s and came on staff in 1987, serving initially as receptionist, then as assistant to the pastors, and since 1992 as assistant to our senior pastor. Born and raised in the Seattle area, Mary Gayle moved to Phoenix after graduation from college, working in both the hotel and banking industries before joining the church staff. She has a brother, sister, and extended family in the Pacific Northwest, but considers the Body of CBC to be her local family. Having been raised in a denominational church, and believing herself to be a Christian, it was not until coming to CBC and hearing God’s word preached that she fully understood her sinfulness and God’s mercy. She became a believer at age 30, receiving Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, and has known increasingly the love of God through “thick & thin” ever since. Along with Psalm 27 and Nehemiah 8:10b “… the joy of the Lord is your strength,” she names as a most meaningful Scripture Colossians 1:9-17, especially “…that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.”
Ryan Silverstein, Facilities Manager
Renee Zuck, Assistant to Pastor of Children's Discipleship (Jason) and Pastor of Student Ministries (Bill)
(email Renee Zuck)
Renee Zuck first attended Camelback Bible Church as a child from 1981-1991 with her family when they had just moved from Germany. She and her family then moved to the Midwest for a time. In 2006 her parents returned to the Valley and Renee decided to follow suit. She loves the beautiful desert, the many places to hike and yes even the HOT weather. No more shoveling snow! Renee joined the staff at CBC in April 2007. She enjoys working with children and performing administrative duties and feels very blessed to be a part of such a mature and nurturing staff in the CBC office. Renee also greatly enjoys music and participates in the Sanctuary Choir and Adult Hand Bell Choir. One of Renee’s favorite Bible passages is: Jeremiah 29:11-13 “For I know the plans I have for you, “ declares the Lord, “plans of welfare, not of evil, plans of hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. If you seek me you shall find me if you search with all your heart.” This passage offers such comfort from our Lord no matter what is happening in our lives or how uncertain our circumstances might be. Seek the Lord with all your heart. He will never disappoint.
